In short

A Monday to Friday lodger lives in your home during the working week and goes home at weekends. It suits people who commute for work or study and hosts who want their weekends to themselves. The rent is usually a bit lower than for a full week, and you should agree arrival and departure days, and what happens with belongings at the weekend.

Who looks for Monday to Friday rooms?

Commuters from rural areas working in a city, teachers and nurses on placement, apprentices and students who go home every weekend.

What should we agree?

  • The usual arrival and departure days.
  • Whether belongings can stay in the room at the weekend.
  • The rent, and what happens on bank holidays.
  • Notice, deposit and house rules, as with any lodger.

Does Rent-a-Room Relief still apply?

Revenue excludes short lettings of 28 days or less, but there is an exception for a lodger who stays at least four days a week over a period of four weeks or more. Check Revenue’s guidance for your own case.

How do I find one on Sa Bhaile?
