In short
Paying before you’ve seen a room is how most rental scams work. Once money is sent by bank transfer it’s very hard to get back. View the room in person, meet the host there, and only pay once you’ve agreed the arrangement in writing.
Why does viewing first matter?
A scammer can copy photos and invent a story, but they can’t show you around a home they don’t control. Seeing the room in person, meeting the host and checking the keys work are the strongest checks you can make.
How do I view safely?
- Arrange the viewing through Sa Bhaile messages so there’s a record.
- Tell a friend where you’re going and when.
- Go in daylight if you can, or bring someone with you.
- Trust your instincts: you can leave at any time.
What if I can’t view in person?
If you’re moving from abroad, ask a friend to view for you, or arrange a live video call with the host walking through the home. Still don’t send money until you’re confident the person and the room are real.
How does Sa Bhaile help?
We warn you in the chat if a message asks for money before a viewing, and you can raise a concern privately with “I’m not comfortable” at any time. Sa Bhaile never asks you to pay anyone through the app.
Common questions
- Is a video viewing enough?
- A live video walk-through is better than nothing, but an in-person viewing, by you or someone you trust, is safest.
- The host says they’re abroad and will post the keys. Is that normal?
- No. That’s a classic scam pattern. Don’t send money.
- Can I pay through Sa Bhaile?
- No. Sa Bhaile doesn’t handle payments, and nobody on Sa Bhaile should ask you to pay before a viewing.
